Fall Color Ride - Green River and Bearwallow Mtn.
October 13, 2008

Green River Road in southern Henderson County. A lot memories along this road for me. I spent a lot of happy summer days fishing for trout below the shadowed banks of the upper Green River. It's an even cleaner river now than it was 40 years ago. It's also one of the most scenic local rides. I combine it with Mt. Olive and the Greenville Watershed when I'm pushed for time but still want to get in a good ride.

Apple Country in Edneyville, NC. That's Bearwallow Mtn. in the background. Most of the following photos were taken up near the peak of Bearwallow, where sprawling fields offer up some great views of the apple country in the valleys below.

Nearing the pavement's end on top of Bearwallow Mtn. The road continues on down the north side of the mountain after it turns to dirt, emerging onto Hwy. 74 between Fairview and Bat Cave.

The Ninja poses by the wide green meadows that blanket the highest points of Bearwallow Mtn.

A shot along the road to Bearwallow on the Hoopers Creek side of the mountain - one of my favorite training climbs on my bicyle. The steep climb, which approaches an 18 degree grade in places, is part of the Hilly Hellacious Century Ride, one of my favorite bike century rides, with nearly 10,000 feet of climbing.

A view of the meadows on the south side of Bearwallow Mtn. This was once part of a mountain farm, but is now being groomed as part of an exclusive housing subdivision.

Got apples??? No apples today, but I did have time for a good ol' nose-scratching.

Good peaceful high country on a beautiful autumn day. It was a perfect day for a ride through the local hills of Henderson County, NC.
