Winter Riding
2010

Below, heading down Hwy. 215 below the Blue Ridge Parkway, with 6,000 ft. Sam Knob rising on the horizon. Sam Knob sits on the edge of the Shining Rock Wilderness area and was nearly completely burned off in the early 1900s after a logging train started a huge fire that swept across much of what is now the Wilderness. The knob on the right side of the peak is one of my favorite wintertime campsites, with 360 degree views of the surrounding mountains.

Lake Logan, site of the old Sunburst logging community.
