Yep, that's claw marks, and yep, that's the tree with the bear pole. Real comforting when you're miles from the road, alone, and not feeling much like climbing. To tell the truth though, I slept better on this trip than on just about any high elevation trip that I've done. The moose kept me up for a while one night, and the second night I enjoyed listening to a wolf howling near camp, but other than that, I slept like a baby.

I set up my tent about 100 feet from shore and several hundred feet from the bear poles. There was a pretty good cooking area near the poles where I enjoyed my meals while admiring the view out over the lake. The 'facilities' consist of a tiny little box toilet situated out in the middle of the meadow in the background of the lower photo.
