The view down Heart River from below my campsite. A good wild feeling to the area makes it hard to leave. I stil remember the smallest details about the stay - the ripples on the lake as the sun went down, the cry of the loons at dusk, the sound of the wolf howling on a hillside behind the camp, and the crazy chuckle of the kingfisher.

The bottom photo offers a view down Heart River from the point where Surprise Creek runs into it. Lots of willow in this area, and I spotted two young Grizzlies about 1/2 mile away, in the direction of Yellowstone Lake.

Heart River, after exiting Heart Lake, meaders down the valley for a few miles before joining up with the Snake River.
