The sign seems to urge you on - only 8 more miles of easy walking to reach Yellowstone Lake. This sign is down at the southeastern end of Heart Lake, at the point near Surprise Creek where you can cut back to the east towards Yellowstone Lake.

The bottom photo shows campsite #8J4, down near the confluence of Surprise Creek and the Heart Lake River. I don't care for the location of this one - it's in the middle of several very busy game trails, with a lot of dense willows all around. I didn't spot a pack-hanging pole at this site either, but it might have been close by. On the other hand, the scenery was incredible, and two huge bull moose had staked out the little meadow as their personal domain.

The lake is just upstream from the campsite in the lower photo. Surprise Creek runs into Heart River just behind me, and the Trail Creek trail heads across the ridges above the Lake from the right side of the photo.
