The winding path of the Trail Creek Trail dips and bobs along the eastern shore of Heart Lake. Again, I was following both Grizzly and wolf tracks, and seemed to see moose in every little dip of the trail along the way. Elk are also common in the area, such as the bull in the photo below. I prefer this side of the Lake, though it's a matter of apples and oranges. This side has solitude (I didn't see any other humans for 3 days) and a terrific view of the sunset over Mt. Sheridan. The west side has the geyser basin and a trail to the top of Mt. Sheridan - along with some really nice sunrises. There are also some nice stands of tall lodgepole pine on the eastern shore, offering some nice shade on a hot summer day. |
