Top: Looking down Death Canyon from the rim above the Shelf. The Gros Ventre range is barely visible in the hazy distance on the other side of Jackson Hole. The Teton Crest trail runs along the wide grassy shelf a couple of hundred feet below me, on its way to the Alaska Basin.

Below: Looking back to the north towards the Grand (barely peeping above the ridge on the left side of the photo.) The Alaska Basin is a few miles out along the Shelf, past the little rocky knob that sticks up in the distance, marking the junction of the Teton Crest trail and the Teton Canyon Shelf trail. For another look at the little rocky knob from the vantage point of the Teton Canyon Shelf, click here.
