I like these two views of the Teton Canyon Shelf. Both were taken from the eastern slope of the Wedge. The upper photo looks down into the grassy expanse of the Shelf, far below. To see the view from the Shelf below, click here.

Below: Looking up the Teton Canyon Shelf from the east slope of the Wedge. Sheep Cliffs are visible over on the left side of the Shelf, at the point were the Teton Crest trail drops down into the Alaska Basin.
Note how, in the lower photo, waves of rock have cascaded down from the cliffs to spread across the floor of the Shelf. For that reason, I prefer to set up camp at a good distance from the cliffs when camping in the region. When I was camping down at the top of Devils Stairs a few days earlier, a huge rock fall occurred just behind my camp late one evening during a thunderstorm. I nearly dug a hole in the ground beneath my tent when it happened - danged shaky for a few minutes, it was...

To get an idea of the scale here, the distance between Sheep Cliffs and the 'little' rocky flat-topped peak in the photo is about 3/5 of a mile.
