Top: The east slope of the Wedge is visible here where it towers above the South Teton Canyon Shelf. The height of the peak is hard to judge from this side. What looks like little rock bands near the summit are 50 foot cliffs. It's a beautiful spot of fractured rock, whistling pika, expansive views, and a sky that goes on forever. Below: After working my way on up Darby Canyon, past the Wedge, seen here in the distance, and Mount Meek, just to my right, I arrived at the high cliffs that overlook the Death Canyon Shelf in the Grand Teton National Park. If you follow the line of dark trees down the south (left) side of the Wedge to the point where you see green grass again, that's the site of my basecamp. Badlands Peak is the huge, flat-topped peak on the horizon, on the left side of the photo. The distant peak on the far right is near the Targhee ski resort, where I'd head to after completing this section of the Wilderness trek. |
