Now here we are several miles to the south, same year. I'm standing at the base of the Wedge, looking north across Alaska Basin towards Table Mountain and the Cathedral Group. Table Mountain is near the left edge of the photo. There is a high cliff about 30 feet in front of me that towers over the South Teton Canyon Bench. This is wild, seldom-visited Wyoming high country. I stayed for several days up at the head of Darby Canyon and didn't see another soul. Over the next few days, I'd pack across the next 3 canyons to the north - South Teton, North Teton, and South Leigh.

This hike took place around the end of July. Bugs were starting to die down for the season, and wildflowers carpeted every centimeter of soil above timberline.
