Climbing the loose rock of Dry Sluice Gap, you can sometimes hear the stream running beneath the piles of stone. In some places, it emerges briefly to form small pools and cascades before disappearing again. By the way, it's some mighty tasty water too.

That's Peter and our climbing buddy from Indiana standing on the Appalachian Trail, just east of Charilies Bunion and at the top of Dry Sluice Gap. We had just completed the climb out. Peter and I would continue our walk on out the Dry Sluice Gap trail and on down to Smokemont before day's end. I wish that I had gotten the fellow's name that did the climb with us. We really enjoyed having him along for the climb.
Ok, I know that some of these photos aren't exactly in order, but we had a bunch and maybe someday I'll re-arrange the page.
