A comparison of the lower and upper reaches of Ramsey Prong. Above, we start the final climb. At first, it seemed like it would be easy, but even after nearly 30 years, I remembered a tougher climb. It was still there. Just beyond the point where Peter is standing in the upper photo, the stream got to be nearly impassable. The banks at streamside got a lot steeper, with rhododendron crowding in to arch across the water. In places, unstable boulder fields made walking at water's edge hazardous.

Below, down below the upper cascades, Peter slips down a rock to reach the next step towards the end of the day's hike to Drinkwater Pool on our first trip up the stream above Ramsey Cascades. Note the small pink ribbon dangling from the rhododendron to his right.
