The view east from the Blue Ridge Parkway, looking back up the valley of Raven Fork, part of the Cherokee lands. The high crest of Hughes Ridge lies further up the valley, inside the Smoky Mountain National Park. The crest has yet to green up and still wears the browns of winter. Way back in the distance, against the horizon, Balsam Mountain stands against the skyline, high above the drainage of Straight Fork Creek. |
