The trail presented us with two firsts; the orange fungus in the top photo was by far the biggest that I've ever seen. The millipedes in the bottom photo had evidently just hatched out and covered about 10 feet of the trail and trailside with a blanket of squirming many-legged life. Impossible to count, but I think it's safe to say that there was probably over 100,000 of the milipedes, and probably a lot more. These two slghts alone would have made the hike worthwhile, but it got even better when the storm moved in.
