| Top: A lonely small
graveyard sits atop a high ridge, just off of the Lower Mt. Cammerer trail
in the Smoky Mountains. Most of the stones were ancient, without markings,
but the only one that was readable was for an Estes Phillips, 1910 - 1912.
It was a beautiful location for the little family graveyard, but it doesn't
seem to get many visitors today. Bottom: The view from the Mt. Cammerer fire tower, looking back down on the slopes that the Lower trail traverses. The early April snowstorm had dumped up to 8 inches of snow on the higher ridges, but by the time we climbed to the top of Cammerer, much of it had melted away. It was a great day to be in the Great Smoky Mountains. |
