Views to the north and south of the Appalachian Trail near Clingmans Dome. Above is the view down into the Forney Creek drainage from the trail between the AT and the Clingmans Dome trailhead parking area. The dead trees were killed by a ting adelgid that has swept down the Appalachians over the past few decades. In this photo, taken in early May, the green of early spring has just started to move up the slopes from the valley below. In the lower photo, the view is to the northwest from near the top of Mt. Buckley on the Appalachian Trail not far from Clingmans Dome. The drainage of Goshen Prong in the Little River watershed lies in the valley below. |
