The cooksite looked out over the large meadow that Rescue Creek runs through. We stopped in at the site long enough for me to set up camp before walking on out towards the Blacktail Creek trailhead. Annie and Tom didn't have gear along for an overnight stay, so after setting up camp, I walked out with them to a point near the road, then said "Goodbye!" and re-traced my steps back to camp. This site had one of the best views from the cook area of any site that I've stayed at in Yellowstone. I could see nearly a mile to both the north and south, and to the top of the ridge across the valley to the east. To my back lay heavy timber, through which I could hear elk crashing all through the evening and night. In the bottom photo, Big Agnes is set up near the edge of the meadow, about 200 feet from the food area. |
