Above, the defeated bull wanders away down the shores of Shoshone Lake, wondering just exactly what the heck happened to his harem.

Most of this wild pageant was viewed from a distance of over 1/4 mile, with much of it occurring at an even greater distance. I used a 300mm lens on my digital Rebel to capture the shots and also as an impromptu telescope. It sure beats joining the roadside circus in other parts of the Park, with hundreds of photographers jostling one another for their shots of the rut. I've enjoyed hanging with the circus at times myself, but man, this is another world that the van-standers will never see.
