A wide grassy marsh blankets the west end of Shoshone Lake, just south of the geyser basin. The low ridge in the background is the eastern edge of the Pitchstone Plateau, with Lewis Lake lying just on the other side of the ridge.

A Backpack trip into the Shoshone Lake Geyser Basin in Yellowstone National Park
I made this solo trip into the geyser basin in mid-September, 2005. It had been snowing off and on for several days at the higher elevations, so I looked forward to a relatively warm, dry trip into the remote backcountry that lies at the western end of Shoshone Lake.
