In the upper photo, Paul checks out the view in the upper canyon. It's nearly impossible to get across to the west bank of Slough Creek at this time of year, especially in the lower reaches where it's swollen with frigid snowmelt.

The bottom photo shows the lively cascade at the top of the canyon, just below the point where you see First Meadow.
