Top: Sylvan Lake near Sylvan Pass by the east entrance lake.

Bottom: Sylvan Pass construction - this is one spot in Yellowstone where off-trail hiking is really dangerous, but not because of the Griz. This area has been blasted for years with artillery shells to dislodge potential avalanches to protect snowmobilers that use the east entrance to access Yellowstone. Many of the shells don't detonate, presenting a very real hazard to anybody that passes through the area.
