With a full belly, the coyote marks the spot of its latest meal, then moves on down the valley.

The bottom photo was taken just before sunset in Hayden Valley, and shows another coyote scarfing down its dinner. Coyotes are universally hated by farmers and ranchers, and millions of dollars have been wasted in a mis-guided attempt to annihilate the species. In the regions where the campaign was successful, the grasslands were quickly overrun with legions of rodents, turning some into near-deserts. Meanwhile, the smart ones survive and the coyote tribe continues to spread across America.
