The coyote waited patiently for about 20 minutes as the ground squirrels watched nervously to see what its plans were. Finally, they let down their guard and started moving further away from the burrow.

The coyote very slowly eased into a crouching position and then spent the next 10 minutes stalking the ground squirrels in slow motion, one slow move at a time. If any of the ground squirrels so much as glanced in his direction, he'd freeze, not moving until their attention wandered away once more. A lot of prey species aren't good at spotting stationary objects, but will spot movement in a heartbeat. Most predators use the stop and go stalk to take advantage of their prey's weakness.
