In the upper photo, the coyote is frozen, with only its fur being tossed by the wind. It held this pose for about two minutes, then eased forward again.

In the lower photo, the song dog has closed to within about 10 feet of the ground squirrel. All the young ones have retreated into the burrow, but the mama continues to stand watch outside.
