In some places I might give distances for a trail or a float that may or may not be precisely accurate. I'll do my best but, hey, that's why they call it an adventure. To be safe, keep a map and compass, or even a GPS handy. There are excellent guidebooks available for just about every stretch of wild country in the nation. I may suggest a few of these guides for the areas that I enjoy exploring. I take no responsibility for the guidebooks either.
At times, I may mention certain areas that I am very fond of that have not been covered much by other folks. Often, I worry that disclosing these areas may contribute to their overuse. This has been a subject of much debate for many years. It's a struggle that any lover of wild country faces. However, if I can help to encourage others to explore and enjoy these places, perhaps they'll join in the fight to preserve them. The battle to preserve our wild country needs all of the help it can get. Please remember, America's wild places are fragile. Either treat them with love and respect or stay the Hell out!
