Above, Eagle Creek early in the springtime. My Apostle is beached about 1/8 mile below the campsite. Springtime is a great time to visit the North Shore of Fontana Lake, but you'll need to keep an eye on the weather - the frequent high winds of spring can make the trip back across the lake to Cable Cove (below) a little wilder than you wish. We've made the crossing with waves at nearly head height, and that's pretty scary when the water temp is only a few degrees above freezing. As a rule, early morning and late evening offer the calmest conditions, but that's not guaranteed.
